Why Email is the One Thing Every Teacherpreneur Should Be Doing

November 03, 2025•5 min read

If you’re a teacherpreneur, you’ve probably heard people say you “need an email list.” But if you’re like many TPT sellers, that idea might still be sitting on your business to-do list right next to “figure out Pinterest” and “finally organize Google Drive.” The truth is, email marketing doesn’t have to be overwhelming or complicated. And once you understand what it can do for your business, it might just move to the top of your list.

Whether you’re just getting started or you’ve had a list collecting dust for a while, this post will walk you through why email matters, how it helps you grow, and how to take your next step forward.

Why Email Matters More Than Ever

Teacherpreneurs need email because it matters more than ever in a world of every changing algorithms and shifts in social media platforms.

Social media platforms come and go. Algorithms change weekly. TPT’s search rankings shift. But your email list? That’s yours. You control it. You decide what gets sent, when it goes out, and who receives it. That kind of control is powerful in a world where so much of your visibility can feel out of your hands.

Think of email as your direct line to the people most interested in your work. It’s a space where you can build relationships, share your teaching ideas, show off your latest product, and even tell a funny story about your own classroom experience. It’s also a place where your audience can respond, connect, and feel like they’re part of your little teacher world.

Your Email List Is a Business Asset

Email marketing for TPT is essential because your email list is a valuable business asset.

Having an engaged list is like having your own loyal crowd of supporters. These are the people most likely to open your emails, check out your resources, and share your work with other teachers. When you send a product preview or drop a new bundle, they’re the first to know, and they’re the ones most likely to click that “buy” button.

Unlike followers on social media or views on TPT, your email list is something you actually own. You’re not renting space from a platform that could change the rules at any time. Building your list is building your business.

But I Don’t Know What to Send!

Not knowing what to send shouldn't hold you back from building a TPT email list, because you can start simple with teaching tips and products that solve problems.

This is one of the biggest reasons teacherpreneurs hesitate to email. Maybe you’ve collected subscribers from a freebie or a conference, but now you’re staring at a blank Flodesk template, wondering what to say. Here’s the good news: your subscribers aren’t expecting perfection. They just want to hear from you.

Start simple. Share a teaching tip. Highlight a product and explain how it solves a problem. Link to your latest blog post or show a behind-the-scenes peek at your next resource. You don’t have to be a professional writer; you just have to show up with something helpful or relatable.

Consistency > Frequency

If you’re worried about how often to email, here’s your permission slip to stop stressing. You don’t have to email every week to be effective. What matters more is showing up consistently. Even once or twice a month can help you stay top-of-mind and build trust.

And if your list has been quiet for a while? That’s okay too. You can reintroduce yourself. A simple “Hey, I know it’s been a while, but I’ve got something I think you’ll love” email is enough to get things rolling again.

Choosing a Great Email Platform

When building a TPT email list, choose a platform like Flodesk to make the process easier.

There are lots of email platforms out there, but one of my personal favorites is Flodesk. It lets you create beautifully designed emails without needing a tech degree. You have complete control of your branding, colors, layout, and content, and it’s one flat rate, no matter how many subscribers you have. That means you can grow your list without growing your bill.

If you’re looking for a platform that’s easy to learn, visually stunning, and kind to your budget, Flodesk is a great place to start.

Let’s Talk Opt-Ins

If you are stuck on what kind of opt-in to create for building a TPT email list, start with a freebie that saves time and solves problems for teachers.

Your opt-in is the freebie you give away in exchange for someone’s email address. It’s your first step toward building a list, and it’s one of the most important. A great opt-in solves a problem, saves time, or gives your audience a quick win. It’s the perfect way to introduce someone to the quality of your work and your products.

The key is choosing something that’s aligned with your product line. If you sell math games, your opt-in could be one math game that comes from a product, or one that is exclusive to the opt-in. If you sell ELA task cards, a quick-reference guide for using them in centers could work well. Think about what your ideal customer would find helpful and how it naturally leads into one of your paid resources.

Still stuck on what kind of opt-in to create? You can also repurpose part of an existing product, offer a classroom checklist, or even try a one-page resource that delivers instant value.

Build, Nurture, Convert

Once you start email marketing for TPT, you will be able to build relationships and nurture your audience.

Once you have a list and you’re emailing consistently, the magic starts to happen. You build relationships. Your subscribers start to expect your emails and open them regularly. Over time, they begin to trust you, and that trust leads to sales.

Instead of depending on TPT to put your resource in front of a buyer, you’re sending it directly to someone who already knows, likes, and trusts you. That’s one of the best ways to increase sales and your conversion rate.
